Parents who beat their daughter for dating a black man, get sentenced to prison

Alfonce Ncube and Jane Champion

The more things change, the more they remain the same – I mean in 2012, beating someone up for dating a black man?!
A British couple who beat up their teenage daughter for dating a black man, have been sentenced to 12 months and 9 months in prison.

Trouble started when David and Frances Champion returned home and found their daughter Jane in a ‘state of undress’ with her boyfriend Alfonce Ncube. Their immediate reaction was to assault, abuse and throw the boyfriend out of the house, shouting racist abuse at him; they then turned on their own daughter and punched her in the face, grabbed her by the hair and kept punching her repeatedly – all the time her mother was reportedly yelling ‘It’s all your fault, you deserve it”

In court, it emerged that Mrs Champion told her daughter that she had ‘ brought shame on her family’  and after learning that their daughter was still seeing Mr. Ncube, Mr and Mrs Champion went to the restaurant where he worked where they were eventually removed from the premises even though Mrs. Champion continued to bang on the restaurant window.
In defiance, Jane has moved in with her boyfriend in a flat in Swansea while they continue to study at the city’s university.
Mr Champion’s lawyer John Hipkin said his client knew it was an abhorrent assault:
“It’s not excusable in any way shape or form. ‘But the circumstances in which he found his young daughter meant he reacted in a terrible way. Lessons have been learned.’
